Eugene's 1928 industrial-farmhouse building that used to be The Beanery (Allan Bros.) is now Farmers Union Coffee Roasters, with owner Joe roasting coffee in-house and a connected herb shop, tea shop, and Down to Earth garden center sharing the complex. The bones are the draw. High ceilings, original wood, big windows, and an outdoor terrace with two-top tables for fair-weather work.
The house signatures are the Rosecomb and the Orpington, both lattes named after heritage chickens, which fits the agrarian branding without forcing the joke. The americano pulls strong. The jasmine matcha latte tilts floral. The almond cappuccino is a solid order for people who want milk without dairy. Food is short and good. A breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and a frittata sandwich cover most of the morning.
The atmosphere skews warm and slightly rustic, with the high-ceilinged industrial space softening the noise instead of bouncing it. The terrace is the best seat in the building when weather cooperates. Inside, the original architectural features are the visual anchor, not the furniture or the art.
The regulars are easy to spot. Remote workers parked at the same table they used last Tuesday, students on laptops, weekday locals on first-name terms with the baristas, bike riders coming in from the river path, vegan-option eaters working the menu.
A few things to know going in. There is one toilet for what is a genuinely massive space, so plan ahead. WiFi gets slow at peak. Outlets are scarce. Only service dogs are allowed inside, which matters in Eugene where most cafes lean dog-loose. The complex feel of the herb shop and garden center next door is part of the appeal. Walk over to Down to Earth after coffee if you want to extend the visit, or sit on the terrace and watch the foot traffic move between buildings.
The house roasting is the technical anchor. The 1928 building is the emotional one. Together they make Farmers Union a Eugene fixture rather than another generic Eugene third-wave room.
