About

Mark Ferrari roasts 100% Kona coffee in Oshkosh, Nebraska. That sentence does most of the explaining. The shop sits at 209 W 1st Street in a tiny panhandle town that is geographically about as far from Hawaii as the continental U.S. gets, and Mark is often on the floor walking customers through how he keeps Kona prices reasonable while keeping the quality where it should be. The story is the kind of thing that should not work and does.

The interior is quaint and warm, counter service only, no indoor seating. Outdoor tables are available on nice days, though Nebraska weather makes "nice days" a meaningful qualifier. The vibe is small and friendly. Hawaiian jewelry from a partner artist sits on the shelves alongside the beans, which fits the through-line: a Kona shop in a place no one would expect a Kona shop, leaning into the curiosity that brings people through the door.

The Sweet Macs are the food order. Macadamia nut cinnamon rolls, made fresh, and they run out early enough that the smart move is to pre-order for next day if they are already gone by the time you arrive. Pour-over Kona is the way to taste what Mark is doing without milk in the way. Latte and cappuccino for the milk side. Bagged Kona beans or grounds to take home, with nationwide shipping if you want to keep it going after you leave.

Kona coffee in most of the continental U.S. is overpriced or fake or both. Mark's pricing structure and direct relationship with Hawaiian growers is the kind of small-business story that justifies the trip out to Oshkosh from anywhere nearby, and the customer education that happens at the counter is half the experience. Most coffee bars do not teach you anything about your beans. This one does.

This is for Nebraska panhandle travelers and Kona buyers who want a direct roaster outside Hawaii. Not for visitors who need indoor seating, a workspace, or a long stay. Show up early for the Sweet Macs, talk to Mark about the beans, take a bag home.
