The cafe is closed. That needs to be the first thing said about Southeastern Roastery Coffee Lab, because a 2026 visitor went looking for it on Eastern Avenue and found the address functioning as a warehouse behind a stretch of railroad-track buildings that are not easy to navigate. The coffee is still good. The walk-in cafe experience is over.
What remains is a Black-women-owned roastery on the East Coast doing single-origin work the owner roasts herself. The Papua New Guinea is the calling card, and it's the bag worth ordering first. The daily blend drip and the espresso both still earn praise from people who get the beans home. Home brewers buying by the pound are the right customer here. The owner's roasting and blending technique is what regulars come back to, and it's still in the bag even when the storefront isn't pouring drinks.
If you're looking for a Baltimore cafe to drink an espresso in, this isn't it anymore. The signs out front may suggest otherwise; the reality at the address is a warehouse hard to find. If you want beans roasted by the owner and you don't need a counter to lean on while you order them, that's the version of this business that's still alive. Plan accordingly, and don't drive to Eastern Avenue expecting to be poured a latte. Order online, plan ahead, and the coffee will reach you in better shape than the visit would.
