Sway Coffee Roasters built its bar around watching the roaster work. Bar-height seating arcs in front of a plexiglass wall, and the on-site roasting happens in your sightline while you drink. The space is bright, full of plants, with tall ceilings and the kind of clean aesthetic that photographs well and works for focused laptop sessions in equal measure. Cozy and warm without being cluttered.
The pastry case comes from sister business McLain's Bakery, which is the move. McLain's cinnamon roll is large enough that finishing one solo is a real question, and most regulars split one across two people. The quiche, sausage or otherwise, is what to order if you want something savory. Bagel sandwiches and a ham and cheese croissant handle the rest of the food rotation. The McLain's connection is the differentiator here. You're getting better pastries than most cafe pastry cases stock.
The coffee program leans into seasonal lattes. The PH Latte is the year-round signature and the drink to order on a first visit. A bourbon caramel latte runs steady; a butternut caramel latte rotates in seasonally and is the move in fall. A pour-over Ethiopian and a London Fog cover the non-espresso lanes. A pour-over is the right order if you want to taste what Sway is doing with single origins. Dogs are welcome inside, which a number of regulars have noticed and appreciated.
The one friction is parking. The lot holds six or seven cars and fills up fast on weekends. Street parking is the backup, and it's not always close, especially during the brunch rush. Otherwise, the WiFi holds up, the noise level supports meetings, and the operation runs the way a serious roastery cafe should. The fit is remote workers, meeting-takers, dog owners, and McLain's pastry fans who don't mind walking from a side street.
