Achilles Coffee Roasters at Park 12 is a downtown San Diego café near Petco Park, part of a small local group. It's calm and very clean. Li, Malia and Roger are names regulars know. Ask for a real mug, and there are dog treats at the counter. The seating area closes 15 minutes before the café does, and parking is tough during Petco events.

Try the honey cinnamon latte or the lavender vanilla latte. Tanzania and Ethiopia pour-overs are on rotation, and there's a barista's choice of the day. The Park Avenue breakfast sandwich with turkey and the Solana Beach bagel (NY bagel, Dijon dill cream cheese) are popular. You can order ahead.
