Achilles Coffee Roasters

Achilles Coffee Roasters has five cafés around San Diego County, and this one is in a Carmel Valley shopping center. There's a big patio, orange accents, a counter and wide-open doors. Weekends get loud and busy. Staff remember regulars. There's free wifi, and dogs get treats outside.

The food is a real draw, with New York-style bagels (try jalapeño red pepper with cream cheese, or sesame with butter and fig jam), breakfast burritos and the Cove. Syrups are house-made. The East Village and WindNSea cold brews are the signatures. The East Village is sweet, so ask for a less-sweet pick if you'd like. Single origins are sold online, with subscriptions.
