About

Afterglow is going WiFi-free starting January 11, 2026. That is the lead, because it is a deliberate move away from the remote-work cafe model that most Scott's Addition rooms have leaned into, and it tells you exactly what kind of shop the co-op wants to be from here forward. Every staff member here is an owner. Tipping is not part of the structure because the labor is already priced into the menu. The pricing reflects that, and you do not have to do math at the register.

The room has tall ceilings, lots of natural light, and plants throughout. Tables pack during peak periods and you may not find a seat at 9 on a Saturday. The bar seat next to the big window is the prize: you watch baristas work the espresso machine and the roastery turns in the back. Wednesday through Saturday a rotating food menu pulls from local vendors. Baltik's Bagels. B-side. Leftie Lee's pastries on the counter most days.

The Pandan Matcha is the signature and the order to start with. The iced honey latte with oatmilk is the steady regular order. The iced chai is ginger-forward and not sugary, which the people who like that kind of chai (and tend to hate the syrupy ones) will appreciate immediately. The cappuccino is clean and shows what the roast is doing. Moringa latte for the caffeine-free move that is not just a chamomile tea bag. Friday and Saturday nights, wine and alcohol come out, which extends the room past the morning crowd and gives the co-op a second economic life past 3 p.m.

Food-wise, the oatmeal chocolate cookie, the focaccia, a Baltik's bagel, the vanilla creme pastry, and Nate's everything bagel with smoked trout dip cover the range. Parking is street only, which is a Scott's Addition fact and not a fixable problem. Come in the morning for the food, come small (groups handle the seating crunch worse than pairs do), and do not plan to camp with a laptop after January. The point of Afterglow now is to drink your coffee and talk to a person, which used to be the point of every cafe before WiFi changed the math.
