Anchor House Coffee Roasters

A chandelier hangs over the seating area. That's the first thing you notice walking into Anchor House, a Main Street coffee shop in Buckley where the interior is bright, open, and clean in a way most small-town coffee shops aren't. There's a large sectional couch in one corner. A small side reading room. Several tables. A bar nook by the entrance. And from the back of the space, you can see the roaster working.

The shop roasts in-house, which the owner Nathan Jung handles, and a portion of bean sales goes toward fighting human trafficking. Regulars cite that cause as a reason they buy beans here rather than online from a name-brand roaster. The stroller-accessible side entrance is a small but telling detail. This is a place that thought about who'd be walking in and built the room to match.

Drinks. The cold foam latte with honey is the move and has the loyalty to back it up. The pour-over is the right call if you want to taste the roasting directly without anything getting in the way. The seasonal Honey Ginger has a following that comes back for it, and the molasses cookie pairs with whatever you're drinking. For food, the chorizo or bacon breakfast burritos handle the morning, and the gluten-free baked goods aren't an afterthought sitting in a corner of the case.

Quiet nooks. Stroller access. A unisex bathroom that stays clean. The reading room for anyone who wants to read rather than just sit near a book. These add up to a space that works for remote workers and families equally well, which is a hard balance for a small-town shop to strike. Not noted as dog-friendly, which is worth flagging if you were planning to bring one along. Otherwise, this is the kind of small-town coffee shop that surprises you with how much thought went into the room, and how seriously the owners take both the coffee and the cause they're putting their sales toward.
