Artisan Cafe is on the Upper West Side, run by Ana with Leonardo and Carlos, who learn regulars' orders fast. It's clean and modern, with AC, comfortable seats and a window nook that goes early. It's quiet enough to work, and dogs are allowed inside. There may not be a public bathroom, and it doesn't always open on time, so call ahead if you're on a schedule.

The menu has Latin American flavors. The cortado with cardamom syrup is the standout. The chai latte is a favorite. There's smooth cold brew, and honey lavender, rose and white chocolate lattes, plus a French toast coffee. Croissants come from Balthazar, and there's avocado toast.
