About

Walk into Baltic Coffee on Main Street and someone will probably hand you two small cups to try before you buy a pound of anything. They roast on site, in front of you, and they sell at the Berlin Market down the road. This is Amish country Ohio, near Sugarcreek, and the shop fits that pace: tasting and chatting before money changes hands.

The flavored coffee list is long and unapologetic. Raspberry Nut, Highlander Grogg, Jamaican Dream, Pecan Pie, Cinn-A-Nut, These Are Good Days. The names tell you the audience. Pecan Pie is a dessert in a cup. Highlander Grogg gets the most repeat mentions across customers. These Are Good Days is the house-blend pick if you want their handshake. On the unflavored side, the Yirgacheffe holds up, the Sumatra Dark goes deep, and the Colombian comes in regular plus a Swiss water decaf for the caffeine-averse half of the table. Chocolate espresso beans sit by the register and do what chocolate espresso beans do.

The sample-first model is the real draw. In a category that mostly asks you to trust a marketing description, getting two free pours before you spend tells you exactly what you are taking home. The downside is that this is not a cafe in the sit-and-work sense. You come in, you taste, you pick a bag, you leave. Out-of-towners passing through Amish country tend to leave with a pound and then mail-order from home once the bag is gone, which is the whole business model in one sentence.

The atmosphere fits the county-side setting. It is small, it is plain, and the show is the roaster running and the staff handing you samples. The Berlin Market table extends the same approach for visitors who run into the brand there first, then drive into Baltic to see where the beans come from. If you like flavored coffees and you like buying them from the person who roasted them, this is built for you. If you want a quiet corner with a laptop and an oat milk latte, keep driving.
