About

The greenhouse-style building across from MSU campus does a lot of the talking before the coffee arrives. Wall of windows, indoor plants stacked against the glass, natural light pouring across wooden booths. The cafe rebranded from International Coffee to Beacon in mid-2025, and the owners are usually on the floor.

The drink list runs more playful than precious. The Bee Sting and the Beehive are the house signatures. A strawberry mocha shows up for Valentine's, the cortado pulls cleanly, and the dirty chai handles both halves of the assignment without one drowning the other. Vegan latte is on the board year-round. For food, the ham and cheese croissant is the move.

The room is funky in the literal sense. Music, color, plants, a little visual chaos that lands closer to greenhouse than coffee shop. Light floods the booths in the morning. By midday the wooden seating fills up with MSU students dragging laptops between classes, Bible study circles in the back booths, business partners with paper agendas, and locals who specifically avoid the more tourist-trafficked downtown rooms.

A few honest caveats. WiFi is spotty, which matters if you came to grind through a paper. Seating during peak hours is hard to find, partly because of the campus crowd and partly because the room's geometry is more atmospheric than efficient. Parking is genuinely terrible. Walk if you can, bike if you have one, and budget extra time if you have to drive.

If the coffee is the only thing you came for, the Bee Sting and Beehive are the right call and the cortado is the test of the bar. If the building is part of the appeal, get there before 10am while the light is still doing its thing through the plants. The room earns the space it takes up, even when the WiFi is fighting you, and even when finals week has packed the booths three students deep.

Greenhouse light, plant walls, and a campus crowd that treats the place like a second living room. The Beacon name is new. The building has been doing this for a while.
