About

Gabe roasts in a town of barely a few hundred people in northwest Wisconsin, and people drive in from the Twin Cities and the lake country to find him. That tells you most of what you need to know. Bear Lake is a B Corp, which is a serious certification not many small roasters bother with, and the inside is decorated with enough care that travelers buy merch on the way out. There's a garden area for warmer months, indoor seating, and a Tesla charger plus a Level 2 plug in the parking lot, which is the kind of detail that signals someone thought about the people pulling off the highway.

The house roasts are the point. Midnight Stargazer is the espresso to order, the pour-overs are taken seriously, and the chai and matcha lattes hold up for the non-coffee crowd. The bakery case runs gluten-free and dairy-free options that aren't an afterthought, including a gluten-free vegan scone, the gluten-free dairy-free breakfast bowl, the chocolate chip and cranberry scones, and a yogurt bowl. Carmen behind the bar is part of the regular experience.

WiFi is good, the indoor and outdoor seating gives remote workers options that work in both seasons, and the road-trip energy is real. The Barronett address is a deliberate destination, not a convenient one, which shapes the kind of customer who shows up. People who plan their route around a coffee stop, or who carve out time to sit in a thoughtfully decorated room in the middle of farm country, are the people who keep this place running.

The catch is the hours. Closed Sundays, and closed Fridays after 2 pm, which is genuinely inconvenient for weekend lake travelers and one customer flagged it as a real drawback. Plan around it. People who care about specialty coffee, allergen-friendly food, EV charging on a road trip, or just a thoughtful stop in the middle of nowhere should make the drive when the doors are open. People expecting weekend afternoon hours should look elsewhere.
