Watch them roast in the back. Bee Coffee Roasters is an Indianapolis-area roastery tucked into the corner of a shopping plaza, and the roaster is visible from the cafe floor, so you can stand at the counter and see beans coming out of the drum. The downtown cafe has closed. The suburban location remains.
The shop is decidedly not corporate. Mismatched furniture that somehow holds together. Plants on the shelves and walls, sold to customers who want them. Local art on the walls, also for sale. Coloring books out for kids. A small reading shelf for adults. Adrian's playlist (bachata included) shows up in customer mentions.
The signature drink is the Honey Bee latte. Other drinks worth naming: oatmilk cappuccino, cortado, iced Thai coffee with oat milk, cappuccino with lavender and honey, a seasonal ruby latte (with red rose petals and beet powder), an iced caramel macchiato sugar-free if you ask. Bellavista is the named bag they ship to home customers. Macadamia milk and oat milk options. Off-menu custom drink creation if you talk to the barista.
The room is quiet and kid-friendly. Good wifi. Quiet enough for work. Pricey to some. Seating runs limited, which is the real friction point. One of the few negative themes in the customer record. The downtown cafe closing didn't help, but the suburban location's customer-loyalty index seems intact.
Indianapolis residents looking for a non-corporate shop. Families with kids. Readers and remote workers. Travelers passing through. The score-one-for-Indy framing one regular used captures the customer base's sense of why they keep coming back.
