The drink menu sets the tone before the coffee does. Bellator roasts in-store at a New Bern cafe on Trent Boulevard and names its specialty drinks like a Harry Potter book club ran the chalkboard: the Dementor, Ravenclaw, Mud Blood with cheesecake cold foam, Basic Witch. That's the pitch. If the names make you wince, this isn't your cafe. If they make you grin, you're already most of the way there.
The room follows the theme. Cozy, spooky-and-fantasy-leaning, with leather couches set up for actual lounging and a kids' corner with coloring sheets in case the children turned up too. The crowd splits between themed-drink fans on a short visit and students settling in for stretches of homework next to laptop workers doing the same.
What to order depends on your tolerance for whimsy. The Dementor is the gateway drink, the one to start with if you have no idea what a Mud Blood is supposed to taste like. Ravenclaw is the move if you want something on the lighter end. Mud Blood with cheesecake cold foam is the indulgence, and the cold foam earns the order on its own. Basic Witch covers the everyday slot for the customer who wants something off-theme.
The beans roasted in-store sit underneath all of it, and owner-level care turns up in the drinks consistently enough to take seriously. A themed cafe could get away with mediocre coffee on the strength of the theme alone; this one didn't take that exit.
This is a cafe for fantasy fans, families with kids, students, and laptop workers who want to disappear into a leather couch for the afternoon. It is not the room for someone who walked in expecting a quiet minimalist specialty bar. Show up on the right terms and the gimmick stops being a gimmick.
