Blooming Hearts Roastery & Cafe is a newer, owner-run café in Milford. The two owners are usually there, and customers know them by name. The roaster's out on display, and there are books and games on the shelves. Their site says the coffee's ethically sourced and freshly roasted.

The homemade empanadas are the thing to get, and people come back for them as much as for the drinks. The maple cardamom iced latte is the house favorite, and some regulars order it less sweet. There's shaken espresso, iced oat lattes and a spinach breakfast item people like.

There's often a line out the door, especially around 8am on weekdays, so lots of people take their drinks to go. If you can stay, there are tables, outlets, books, games and outdoor seating in good weather.
