About

The bathroom at Blue Mind Coffee is stocked with feminine products, baby products, and mutual-aid resources. That tells you a fair amount about how the shop sees its role on East 38th Street in Indianapolis, near the Indiana State Fairgrounds. House-roasted beans, award-winning baristas, and one of the few options open early on weekends on the north side of the city.

The room is larger than the exterior suggests. Tables and couches, plenty of plants, a patio outside, and a clientele that mixes laptop workers, parents with strollers, and morning walkers in a way most cafes never manage.

Music is kept quiet enough to work. That is intentional.

The ube iced latte is on the regular order list. The butterscotch latte is served in a ceramic mug with an in-house syrup that earns the menu space. Ethiopia drip is the lighter pour for the customer who wants it. The pumpkin spice latte is less sweet than the typical version, which most regulars treat as an improvement, and the iced matcha is reliable. Gluten-free pastries come from Native Bread, regular pastries from Leviathan Bakehouse, both worth the round-trip on their own. Pup cups are part of the routine. The regulars know Skip, the big white dog who comes in often.

The weekend morning catch: when staffing runs short, the operation slows. One recent customer described baristas too shy to call orders, with finished drinks sitting on the counter unclaimed. Not a constant, but worth knowing if you walk in on a busy Saturday.

For remote workers, customers with dietary restrictions, parents with strollers, and dog owners, the cafe holds up across all of those demands at once, which is genuinely rare. The seasonal rotating menu with housemade foams and syrups gives the regulars something new to try without abandoning what works. Order the butterscotch latte in the ceramic mug. Take a Native Bread pastry on the side.
