About

Cafe Santa Rosa lives inside the old Betty Jayne Bremmer Center for the Performing Arts in Peoria Heights, and the building still has the old dumbwaiter to prove it. Owner Marta sources the Colombian single-origin from her family's farm in Colombia, and the farm provides employment and training back home, which is the kind of detail that earns its mention because it is true rather than marketing. The bag in your hand has a real history attached to it.

The space splits into rooms with personalities. The open main floor is cafe seating with the bar and the morning energy. Upstairs runs quieter, with large tables that work for meetings and long-stay remote work; one customer was shushed up there by another patron, which tells you exactly what that room is for. A porch sits out front. A few nights a week the bar setup opens for evenings, which is the rare cafe move that extends the room past breakfast.

The coffee is the centerpiece. French press service of the Colombian single-origin is the order if you want to taste the farm. The cardamom latte and winter spice latte are the milk-drink moves; the hot mocha holds its own without going dessert-sweet. Pastry rotation is in-house and locally sourced, anchored by banana bread, avocado toast, empanadas (a Colombian house move that fits the ownership story), and croissants when they are in stock.

If you are hosting a meeting, the reservable upstairs is the play and one of the few proper meeting rooms in a cafe in the area. If you are settling in for solo work, find the corner with the outlet and order the French press. If you have a sprawling laptop setup with two monitors and a separate keyboard, scout your table first; some run small and you will end up rearranging. And keep your voice down upstairs, or another customer will. The room is built for focus, and the regulars protect that. The downstairs is for the talking. The porch is for the smokers and the phone calls.
