Cafe Typica small batch roasters

Matt owns Cafe Typica and usually pulls the shots himself. The roaster sits at the front of the shop, Flint the shop dog patrols the floor, and the whole operation has a workshop feel that you cannot fake. This is a Glendale hole-in-the-wall in the literal sense. Sometimes there is barely standing space inside, which is part of why it works.

The espresso program is the reason to come. Matt knows what he is doing behind the lever, and the shots track between visits in the way that only happens when the same person is running the bar daily. Latte with or without sugar, depending on how you want the milk balanced against the espresso. Spicy chai for the heat. Vanilla latte for the standard pull when you want something clean. Honey latte if you want something different from the syrup-based options. Nitro cold brew on tap for the iced side. Grab a raspberry coffee cake slice from the pastry case if you need food to anchor the visit.

Pricing is fair for a Denver-area roaster, which deserves a mention because most of the nearby competition has drifted upward into the seven-dollar latte range. Typica has held the line.

The owner-pulled shots are the throughline. Matt will talk to you while he steams milk if you want the conversation, and he will not push it if you do not. Flint sleeps in whatever corner is open and accepts pets from anyone offering.

This is not a laptop shop. Indoor seating is too limited and the room is not built for it. Stand at the bar, talk to Matt while he pulls your shot, pet Flint, sit on the outdoor seating if it is open, drink the espresso. That is the visit. It is a short, well-made visit, and that is the entire point of the place.
