About

Cinnamon roll focaccia is the thing people ask about first. Camellia Coffee House serves it alongside Portuguese custard tarts, biscuits, and quiche, and the baked goods are the strongest part of the operation. The cafe sits on North Lansdowne Avenue with artist studios attached to the side of the building, which gives the room a working-creative atmosphere most neighborhood coffee shops don't bother with.

Inside, you get outlets, room to spread out, and a regular-friendly feel one customer compared to the Cheers bar where everybody knows your name. That description suits the place at its best. The catch is consistency. Recent visits flag uneven service across staff, and the chai latte with maple cream gets both real praise and the watered-down complaint from different tables. Prices also draw notice, especially compared to nearby Kia Cakes and Blue South, which have set a benchmark in Lansdowne that Camellia hasn't yet matched on value.

It works for laptop work and small group meetups. The room is built for that kind of slow-stay visit, with plenty of table space and the studios giving the building a different rhythm than a standard cafe. If you go expecting cheap drinks or perfectly polished service, the place is going to disappoint. If you go for the focaccia and a long sit with your laptop, the trade-off is worth making. The chai-with-maple-cream order is the one to know about before deciding: some mornings it's the best thing on the menu, other mornings it's diluted enough to send back.

It's a newer addition to the neighborhood still finding its footing, and the bakery side is doing the heaviest lifting while the front of house catches up. The art-studio building is a real asset, and the cinnamon roll focaccia is the kind of one-off item that pulls people in from outside the immediate neighborhood once they hear about it.
