About

One of the few spots near Mallory Square with air conditioning and real seating. That is the first thing Caribbean Coffee Roasters by Caffeine has going for it in a Key West stretch where most options are open-air, packed, and exposed to whatever weather the afternoon brings. Pastries and breakfast items are made in house, and the coffee gets roasted under the Caribbean Coffee Roasters name.

The space is striking. A big mural anchors a clean indoor room with entrances at both the front and back, plenty of seating, and music kept at a sensible volume. Air-conditioned, which matters more in Key West than the sentence makes it sound. No restroom, no WiFi, so this is not a remote-work setup. Treat it as a sit-down stop, not a hangout.

The drink menu does cold-weather work in a hot climate. The salted caramel cold brew with cold foam is the headline order, the kind of summer drink that justifies the format. Iced cafe con leche if you want the Cuban side of the menu. The peanut butter iced latte and the iced pistachio latte both have followings among regulars. Sparkling coffee is the curiosity worth trying once if you want to know what carbonated cold brew tastes like. Broad alt-milk and syrup selection covers most customizations a Key West tourist might ask for.

Food is the other reason to go. The Cuban Chicken Sandwich does the job and fits the locale. The cinnamon roll, the Dubai chocolate chip cookie, the chocolate croissant, and the bacon and egg cup are all in-house and all worth ordering. The pastry program is strong enough that the cafe could trade on it without the coffee, which is unusual on the Front Street corridor where so many places phone in the food.

This is a tourist and family spot: people staying near Mallory Square who want an air-conditioned sit-down with strong pastries and a roast that holds up. Not for laptop sessions and not for anyone hoping to grab a table outside. The trade-off for the AC and seating is the no-restroom policy, which is worth planning around.
