About

Barry and Lynn own Coffee Coffee in Salem, New Hampshire, and they'll tell you about the beans. At length. The shop is part retail counter, part organic-and-fresh-roasted education program, and the owner-led pitch is the polarizing piece. Some people love it. Some find it condescending. Both reads are correct depending on the morning and how you walked in.

The space is small with personal tables and comfortable couches. Karaoke happens on weekends, which is the kind of detail you don't expect from a coffee shop run on roasting principles. The room can shift register fast from a quiet bean-buying conversation to something noisier, and the regulars seem to enjoy both modes.

The iced coffee comes with coffee ice cubes, which is a non-negotiable for anyone who cares about not diluting the drink and is the kind of detail Barry and Lynn would absolutely point out before you got the chance to ask. The hot cocoa cappuccino uses organic cocoa and is the build that gets named more than anything else. Brewed cup of the day rotates through. Fresh-roasted whole-bean bags are the main retail event, and Barry and Lynn will walk you through which one suits your brewing setup if you ask. Possibly even if you don't.

Bean shoppers who want to chat with the roasters are the core customer. Laptop visitors who want a quiet corner can find one if the karaoke isn't running. The shop isn't built for hands-off transactions, which means the people who want to come in, order, and leave without engagement aren't going to enjoy themselves. The friction is built into the model.

If you want a coffee bought from someone who cares about it more than you do and is going to tell you so, this is the place. If you want a transaction, walk to the chain down the road. The honesty is what makes Coffee Coffee work for the customers it works for, and the karaoke-on-the-weekend angle proves the operation has more dimensions than the bean-education pitch would suggest.
