Coffee Republic's Trade Street cafe sits on the ground floor of an Uptown Charlotte mixed-use building, directly in front of the Gold Line station, which makes it commuter-adjacent in a way most Charlotte coffee shops aren't. Beans are ground in-house. The regulars know the team by name: Julia, Jonah, Jojo, Greyson. That kind of name recognition is the cleanest signal a cafe is doing the service side right.

The room is bright, clean, calm, with a large central counter and the aesthetic that reads well on Instagram without trying too hard. Tables are comfortable, outlets sit next to seats, Wi-Fi works. This is a remote-work cafe by design, and the design holds up. Students take it over during exam stretches. Dog owners come because the staff hands out free pup cups.

The strawberry fields latte and the strawberry matcha (macadamia or oat) are the drinks that get reordered. Dragons breath and the salty dog have their own followings. The red eye does what a red eye should. On the food side, the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant and the chicken sausage breakfast sandwich both hold their own, and the chocolate croissants disappear early. The patio is dog-friendly and quieter than the interior.

If you're ordering off the strawberry-matcha column, you'll likely become a regular.
