Coffee Surf operates a bar in the back of a Playa Bowls across the street from the Belmar beach. Surfboards hang from the ceiling. Cold brew runs on tap. The lighting is dim. The vibe is exactly what you would expect for a counter ten feet from the sand, which is to say, coastal in a way that is hard to fake. The shop closes for winter and reopens in spring. That has caught a few people off-guard, and the website does not always reflect the actual hours, so calling ahead in shoulder season is a good idea. This is a warm-weather business and acts like one.

The drinks lean into the location. The Big Easy cold brew and the Coconut cold brew are the signature pulls and the reason most regulars come in. The Coconut latte and the Banana Foster latte show up on a lot of orders, the Coconut Dream iced coffee covers the lighter side, and the espresso and chocolate mocha round out the menu for the cooler mornings. None of this is a serious sit-down coffee experience and nobody pretends otherwise. You are getting cold brew before walking onto the sand, or warming up with a latte after.

The counter service stays friendly through the summer rush, which is the part the surfboards on the ceiling cannot carry on their own. The line moves quickly. The coastal-shop ambience does what it should without taking itself too seriously. The shared space with Playa Bowls means you can put a bowl in the same hand as the cold brew, which is the right move on a hot Jersey shore Saturday.

This is not a laptop spot. The room is dim, the seating is limited, and the energy flows in and out with the beach traffic. Belmar day-trippers, surfers checking the swell, and anyone wanting cold brew on tap before walking across to the boardwalk will find the right thing in their hand within about ninety seconds of walking up to the bar. Off-season visitors should call before driving over.
