Pull off IL-37 outside Benton and the wrap-around porch is the first thing you see. Rocking chairs, a cabin-feel building, and the kind of rural Illinois setup that lives on travelers and on campers coming out of Whittington state park down the road. Forestry Coffee runs on that traffic, and the room earns the visit.
The inside reads cute, quaint and homey, which on the ground translates to soft seating, rustic decor and a calming environment that does not push you to leave. The roasting happens in-house. The drink menu leans into flavored lattes with the blackberry iced latte and the iced maple breve getting specific shout-outs, plus matcha and a nitro cold brew for the people who want unflavored.
If you are a coffee drinker who wants the bean to do the talking with no syrups in the way, the flavored-latte tilt may feel a little sweet. The straight pour and the nitro cold brew are the way to read what the roaster is doing without the sugar in front of the bean. Order the iced maple breve once for the experience, then come back for the nitro to see what the operation does straight.
Parking is the practical wrinkle. The lot is small, and on a busy weekend you may circle. Camper traffic and porch-seat tourists can fill the space fast, so an early morning arrival, before the campground starts moving, is the play. Once the lot fills, the rocking chairs are usually claimed and you may end up standing on the porch with your cup.
This is a destination cafe in the literal sense: you have to be going by, or going to it on purpose. For travelers along IL-37 and the state-park crowd, the porch alone is worth the stop. For a Benton local who lives ten minutes away, this is the Sunday morning spot, and the iced maple breve is the order to start on.
