Foxtail Coffee Co. Pompano Beach

Foxtail's Pompano Beach shop is bigger inside than the storefront in the Pompano Citi Centre lets on. The Orlando-founded chain built this one out as a roomy, well-lit room with bar seating and tables, the kind of serene modern cafe that reads more like a study lounge than a quick-stop drive-thru. The wifi works. There are seats. People stay for hours, which is unusual for a chain outpost in a shopping plaza. The menu rewards iced-drink people first. The iced matcha with honey cold foam is the one regulars name-check, and the iced chai sits right behind it. Seasonal lattes like the maple pancake and the maple berry are worth ordering when they show up on the board. For a real meal, point at the ham-egg-cheese croissant or, if you need it, the gluten-free vegan oatmeal cookie that has its own small following. The cafe con leche is solid. There is also ice cream and an in-house pastry program, which is the kind of detail that explains why students post up here for the afternoon and stay through the end of a class block. The honest issue is service. Recent visits have included disengaged baristas and slow mornings, especially on single-barista shifts and right at open. If you turn up at 7am expecting the energy of a chain-trained machine, you may be standing for a while before anyone takes your order. Come mid-morning when a second person is on bar and the place runs the way it should. Pompano Beach has a shortage of cafes you can work out of for three hours without being asked to move along. Foxtail fills that gap when the staffing is right, and the room scales up to a small study group without the standard cafe friction. Bring headphones, bring patience for the morning rush, and the room will hold up its end of the deal. The matcha and the chai are the orders to default to until you have run through the seasonal lattes once each.
