Fresh Roast

Jimmy Su has run Fresh Roast in San Gabriel for 25 to 30 years. He roasts the coffee and cooks all the food himself. It's a Hong Kong-style café that stays open later than most, full of plants, art, trinkets, books and funny signs collected over the years.

Try the pandan coconut or sea salt Vietnamese coffee, the ube Vietnamese latte or the sesame latte with oat milk. There's siphon coffee if you want to watch the brew. HK egg waffles filled with Portuguese custard are the signature snack, and there are Portuguese egg tarts too.

It's popular for studying and hanging out late. Wifi has a two-hour limit, and street parking can be tricky.
