Gold Stripe occupies the Cactus Alley shopping center in Lubbock, sharing a green courtyard and a pond with neighboring businesses. Records play. Games sit out for anyone who wants to stay a while. Baristas Lisa, Natalia, and Megan run a tight bar and know what they are doing on every drink.

The room is eclectic and retro, charming in a small footprint, with an ambiance that customers consistently call out as the best thing about the place after the coffee itself. The courtyard setting and the pond outside give the cafe an unusual sense of place for a Lubbock shopping center, and the cute-little-coffee-shop feel is earned, not styled in.

The Lechera Latte with oat milk is the signature order and the one to start with on a first visit. The cortado is the clean espresso pull for anyone who wants to taste what the bar is doing without the sweetened lane. For pour-over drinkers, the Hambela Organic or the Banco Gotete on the engraved wooden board is the experience the shop is built around, and the sparkling water is the small ritual that signals the seriousness. The cold brew latte with caramel and mocha runs heavier for anyone who wanted something dessert-adjacent. A Spro Bot bag with peanut butter notes is the take-home option for home espresso work.

The indoor space is small and cramped, which is its only real layout flaw. Prepackaged heated food has been flagged. Most consequentially, one customer noted racial discrimination in service at this location, which is worth surfacing rather than burying in a list of minor caveats. TTU students working on homework, dog owners (dogs are allowed inside, but the outdoor courtyard is preferable), and road trippers passing through Lubbock are the regular crowd. The bar work is genuine. The service issue is genuine too.
