About

Ground Floor Coffee sits on Merrills Wharf, and the back patio looks straight out at New Bedford harbor. Cobblestone window detail. A wood panel accent wall. Green velvet couches. Wood slab tables. The space photographs well and reads modern without being cold, which is a hard line to hit on a working waterfront.

The pistachio croissant is the bakery move. The linguica and cheese roll is the New Bedford-specific move that visitors from outside southeastern Massachusetts won't think to order and locals will steer you toward. Breakfast sandwiches lean sweet and savory together. The iced vanilla latte is the most-ordered drink. Signature breakfast sandwiches change weekly, which gives regulars a reason to ask what's new on a Tuesday. A chai latte covers the non-espresso lane.

Semi-private booths handle small groups well. Bar stools at the window face the water but get called uncomfortable by people who sat in them for an hour. Outlets and charging stations live under the bar, which makes it a real remote work option once you've found a seat that doesn't punish your back. The back room is an event space for rentals, and they cater, which has built a second business line on top of the cafe traffic. Packaging is recyclable and compostable, which the cafe is explicit about.

A few honest things. Loud staff conversations have been flagged often enough that the volume is a real intermittent issue. Small-group seating gets tight in winter when the outdoor patio closes. The prices land high enough that one customer flagged sixteen dollars for a latte and a roll, which is the trade-off for a harbor view in a tourist-friendly stretch. Families with dogs are welcome, including one regular who brings a Westie. The fit is remote workers willing to negotiate bar stools, event planners who need a back room, families with dogs, and people who want to drink coffee with a working harbor in their sightline.
