An old Airstream caravan trailer parked inside a plant nursery. Highwire's Solano Avenue espresso stand operates out of the trailer at Flowerland Nursery in Albany, surrounded by plants and passion-flower vines, with hours that run separately from the nursery itself, so you can come for coffee even when the plant side is closed. Pastries come from local bakeries on a rotating basis.

The atmosphere is zen-like, whimsical, a garden escape with sparse seats tucked into the foliage. It is the kind of cafe setup that does not work in description and works completely in person. The third-wave espresso recipe runs darker than the genre default, which is a stylistic choice Highwire has made and continues to defend, and the bar pulls it correctly. Regulars get their orders remembered, which in a stand this small means the staff knows you by face within a couple of visits.

Order the latte for the clean read on the darker-leaning espresso. The cortado is the smaller pour that lets the bean carry the cup. The cinnamon sugar mocha muffin is the pastry order to start with, the one that pairs with everything on the menu and is the reason some regulars come back even when they were planning to leave the carbs. An almond croissant covers the more classical pastry lane. The Kashmiri tea with saffron and cardamom is the move for anyone who does not want espresso that day and wants something equally considered.

The limitations are physical and unfixable. Seating inside the nursery is sparse, and a busy morning means a wait or a coffee-to-go among the plants. Parking on Solano is hard to find at peak times. The pastry roster has shifted with some longtime favorites lost, which longtime regulars have noted. Bay Area coffee customers, Solano Avenue regulars, puppy owners, and people who came in for plants and stayed for an espresso are the steady traffic. The trailer-among-plants setup is the entire pitch, and it lands.
