Highwire moved next door after Market Hall vacated, and the new room runs cramped enough at the door that baristas brush past customers on the way through. That trade-off is the cost of the location, which is the Rockridge Oakland anchor connected to a marketplace where you can pick up wine, bakery, and seafood after coffee. The shop sells Bauhaus and Conscientious Objector bagged beans, both worth taking home.

Order a cortado in a proper cortado cup, which is one of those small details that separates a real espresso program from a half-serious one. The flat white is the breakfast move. The ham and cheese croissant sells out early, so get there before nine if you want one. A mochi donut pairs cleanly with espresso. Hot chocolate handles the kid order.

For the home setup, the Bauhaus whole-bean bag is the workhorse and the Conscientious Objector organic blend is the values purchase. Gluten-free customers find more than the usual cafe scraps here.

This is a BART commuter room, a neighborhood regulars' room, and a home-bean-buyer destination. The marketplace integration gives you a real reason to combine the coffee stop with a grocery run, which most cafes can't offer.

Know the limits. Seating is sharply limited, and the WiFi situation, by recent customer accounts, is essentially not a thing here. This is not a remote-work cafe. The shop has also drawn anti-union complaints in customer feedback, which is the kind of detail that matters more to some customers than others and is worth surfacing rather than glossing.
