John Joseph Coffee in Sauk City still has $1 drip coffee. The outside is low-key, and inside it's Midwest chic and smells like fresh roast. Seating is limited, inside and out, and there's wifi. The owner's easy to talk to. Parking's tight, so plan a little extra time.

They roast in-house and are known for dark roasts, so ask about the signature dark. Regulars take home whole-bean bags, and they offer subscriptions.
