About

Kamiak Coffee names its lineup after western US mountains. Grand Teton. Cascade. Lassen. The Idaho operation on North Almon Street in Moscow serves the Palouse and ships nationally, with Tyler running point on customer-facing work and an auto-ship subscription program that handles the recurring side. Hand-written notes go in with orders, which is a small detail that says something about how the place wants to be remembered.

Grand Teton is the dark blend, and it's the one strong-coffee drinkers reach for. Cascade and Lassen round out the named-mountain bags. The Nicaragua single origin is the move if you want to step outside the blends and taste origin character. The four-roast sampler pack is the easiest way to triage the lineup if you don't know where to start, which is also how a lot of the subscription customers get hooked.

The operation runs primarily as a shipping roaster, with in-person pickup for Moscow-area customers. The Almon Street address is a working space, not a counter to settle in at. The subscription program does the heavy lifting for repeat customers, and the sampler pack handles the first-time buyers.

Decaf is on offer, which matters more than it should given how often decaf is treated as an afterthought at small roasters. For Palouse locals who want a hometown roaster with bags they can give as gifts, and for out-of-area subscription drinkers who want a small-batch operation that ships consistently, Kamiak earns the place in the rotation. Start with the sampler. Land on the Grand Teton if you want it strong, or the Nicaragua if you want it brighter.
