About

Kissing Rock sits on Highway 101 in Gold Beach, run by Andrew and Christine, who roast the beans on site and stock a rotating selection of local crafts and treats around the counter. The shop is small, decorated with coffee plants throughout, the kind of cozy that fills up fast and moves people through quickly because the bar runs efficient. Picnic tables outside for sunny coastal days, of which the Southern Oregon Coast offers more than the reputation suggests.

Drinks are the working core: caramel latte, iced chai tea latte, double espresso, mocha latte, oat milk latte. Fudge brownies and banana nut muffins on the food side, both worth the detour off the highway. Beans are roasted in-house, which is unusual for a roadside coast stop and is the reason the shop earns repeat customers from people who only see it once a year on the way through.

The local-crafts side of the counter is the other reason to slow down. Andrew and Christine rotate what they stock based on what local makers have available, which means you might walk out with a candle, a piece of jewelry, or a small print alongside your coffee. The whole setup reads like a small business doing what a small business does best in a town this size: supporting the other small businesses around it.

Parking is plentiful, with more lots in the back than you would expect from the street view. The shop is built for the kind of trip where you need fifteen minutes outside the car, a real coffee, and maybe a quick email knocked out at a picnic table before getting back on the road toward Port Orford or Brookings.

The honest caveat is the Italian sodas. Two recent reviews flagged trouble there, which suggests it is not where the kitchen's attention is. Stick to the espresso program and the baked goods. For Highway 101 travelers between Brookings and Bandon, this is the stop worth slowing down for, and for locals it is one of the reasons the coffee scene in Gold Beach holds up at all.
