Krankies

Krankies is a roastery and restaurant in an old brick railway building in downtown Winston-Salem. There's exposed brick and an industrial feel, and you'll hear the occasional train go by. They roast small-batch specialty coffee and serve coffee, biscuits and spirits.

Biscuits are the big thing here. The Classic comes with fried chicken, honey and Texas Pete, and the Bluebird with house-made blueberry jam. The potato wedges with green sauce have fans too. On the coffee side, the espresso and drip are smooth, and some of the baristas have won latte art competitions.

It's counter-service, with indoor seating and a patio that's at its best in spring and fall. It works for a quick coffee, a weekend brunch or an afternoon with a laptop. They also offer a coffee subscription.
