Loquat opened as a corner shop in Cypress Park in 2024, a private label of Kumquat Coffee, and the sidewalk outgrew the space almost immediately. There are no indoor tables. There is a small outdoor booth, and that is the seating plan. The room itself splits opinion sharply. Some regulars call it cozy and grown-up. Others have compared the vibe to a Feeld date in an Apple store, which says something about how seriously the place takes its aesthetic, and how seriously it takes itself. The coffee is the reason to come anyway. Kumquat-roasted beans, careful pour-overs, a good cold brew, and a decaf that is treated like a real drink rather than an afterthought, which is rare enough to mention because most LA shops give up on the decaf bar entirely. The mascarpone latte (the tiramisu cup) is what regulars order first and what they come back for. It is the signature, and it does the work. The marble matcha gets a more divided response, so order it once and decide for yourself rather than taking anyone's word for it. This is a walk-up shop for coffee-focused locals on foot. If you are driving in expecting a seat, a laptop session, boba, a tea-shop menu with twenty syrups, or a sweetened drink, you are in the wrong neighborhood and the wrong shop. If you live nearby and want a small operation taking its single product seriously, Loquat earns the line. The fact that the space is small enough to feel claustrophobic on a busy Saturday is part of the same character that makes the coffee work. Come at an off hour if you want to spend a minute with it. Come at peak and accept that the line is the line because Cypress Park has been waiting for this.
