Lucky Detroit Coffee Roasters is an independent roaster with shops in Birmingham, Royal Oak, Corktown and Grosse Pointe. The Royal Oak café is on Woodward at 13 Mile, across from Memorial Park. It's small and bright, with comfy sofas, big windows and plants. Seats fill fast on weekends, and there's free wifi.

The vanilla bourbon latte is the one to get. The campfire latte with toasted marshmallow and the dirty chai are favorites, and there's cashew milk. The syrups are house-made. For food, try the sausage, egg and cheese puff or the breakfast sandwiches on brioche.
