About

Five dollars buys you a working Kona coffee farm and botanical garden, with an infinity pool overlooking the valley and the ocean. Children under fifteen are free. Mauka Meadows runs as a self-guided walk down steep paved paths through fruit trees, flower beds, and coffee grounds in Holualoa, with a shuttle running every thirty minutes back up to parking. Japanese-speaking staff are on duty for the substantial Japanese tourist flow that makes its way up the mountain.

The property reads serene, fragrant, meditative. The botanical-garden framing is accurate, and the mini-paradise feel is what most visitors call out first. A property dog named Lucida wanders. On-site roasting and a gift shop sit at the top of the walk, where free Kona coffee samples and multiple roast options get poured for anyone who climbed back up after the loop. Tangelo, passion fruit, star fruit, macadamia nuts, and chocolate-covered coffee beans round out the tasting and the take-home shopping.

The walk down is steep enough that sturdy shoes are required, not suggested. Flip-flops will not work, and anyone who shows up in them will spend the loop watching their footing instead of the view. Items in the gift shop run pricey, which is the standard Kona-farm markup but worth knowing if you came expecting commodity prices. No outside food is permitted on the property, so plan to eat before you arrive or pick up macadamia nuts and fruit at the top.

Big Island tourists, Japanese tourists, families with kids who can handle the steep paths, and photographers chasing the infinity-pool angle are who shows up. The pool view does most of the persuading, and the free samples handle the rest. The combination of working farm, formal garden, and view that most people only see from a resort makes the five-dollar admission the easiest yes on the Kona coffee belt for anyone willing to walk down a hill and ride a shuttle back up.
