Coffee buckets and coffee flights. McGee Black Irish Coffee on Main Street in Manasquan leans hard into the Irish-themed menu, and the format itself is part of the fun. The bucket-and-flight presentation gets named in customer after customer's first visit, which means the gimmick is doing work the menu copy alone never could. The Irish creme cold brew is the headline drink. The Cinnamon Bun Iced Latte, the Barbie frappe, and a steady rotation of specialty drinks back it up.
The room is set up for a long stay. Outdoor seating is cute, the holiday decor changes often enough that regulars track it from season to season, and the music gets cranked loud enough that one customer specifically called it good rather than complaining about it. That is a small but telling note: most coffee-shop music either disappears or annoys somebody. Here, somebody is paying attention to the playlist.
Wifi works for study sessions. Pup cups are confirmed for the dogs out front. Seating is plentiful enough to land somewhere comfortable on most visits.
The bagels and pastries are made in-house. One customer called the bagel the best they ever had, which is a sentence New Jersey takes seriously and not a claim somebody throws around in this state lightly. The coffee milkshake, the cheesecake, and the pound cake all get repeat orders. The whole food side of the menu is doing more than propping up the coffee.
The trade-off is speed. This is not a grab-and-go operation. One customer waited 20 minutes at lunch behind a queue of people chatting with the staff, which is either a feature (people who linger) or a frustration (you are hungry, you have somewhere to be) depending on the day. The staff and the regulars treat the bar as a place to talk, which means the line behind them gets cozy with itself. Plan for that going in.
