Medici Roasting

Medici Roasting's Springdale Road room is the kind of cafe Austin produces well. High ceilings, a wall of windows, couches and bar stools and indoor tables and a large patio, and enough parking that you don't dread arriving, which on the east side counts as a feature. The space is open-concept and full of natural light, and on a slow weekday morning it can feel like a private room you found by accident.

The iced vanilla lavender espresso is the signature order. It's the one that gets named most in reviews and the one to start with if you've never been. A cortado is reliably a cortado, which is what you want from a cortado. The hibiscus tea is a sensible non-coffee pick, and the matcha latte holds up.

Staff are split. Some regulars praise the chill mood. Others have described the energy as negative on certain shifts. Take the room as you find it and don't assume the bad day is the norm or the good day is either.

The Wi-Fi is flaky enough that customers who need to work have flagged it, which is worth knowing because the space looks built for that exact use. Big tables, lots of outlets, patio for breaks. If you can ride out an occasional drop, the room rewards a long session. If your meeting can't drop, do not gamble.

Dogs are not allowed inside. Only on the patio, which in Austin is usable most of the year.

What the space does well is hold a crowd without feeling stuffed. A casual coffee date works here. A solo afternoon with a book and a cortado works here. A first-meeting with someone you've only talked to over email works here, because the room is big enough to absorb a stranger without making the conversation feel observed. A four-hour Zoom marathon is a riskier bet. Match the use to what the room can hold.
