The bathroom situation needs addressing up front. There isn't one inside. What there is, is a porta-potty out back, reached by walking through a dirt parking lot. That detail alone will sort the right customers from the wrong ones, and it should be the first thing anybody considering Petaluma Coffee & Tea hears about.
For everyone else, this is a big open industrial room in downtown Petaluma with comfortable seating, in-house roasting, and chai that's made on site. The space is generous in a way that smaller cafes can't match, which is part of why laptop workers have made it a regular workspace. Comfy chairs, room to spread out, beans being roasted somewhere in the building, the smell of coffee filling the room the way it should at a real roaster.
The chai latte is the named draw, and the in-house production earns the attention. The cold brew and the pour overs are both strong, and the Sumatra French Roast is for people who like their coffee dark and assertive without apology. The large lattes come with four shots, which is either a feature or a warning depending on your tolerance for caffeine. Pastries are top-tier, which not every roaster bothers with, and that detail alone separates this from the average industrial-space cafe.
The London Fog and the iced roasted matcha give you two non-coffee options that aren't afterthoughts. Both are worth ordering if espresso isn't on the menu for you that morning.
Street parking can be tough in downtown Petaluma. Plan for a walk from wherever you end up parking, and adjust your timing accordingly. The bathroom is what it is and there's no spinning it. The coffee and the workspace are why people keep coming back through the dirt lot. If you can make peace with those constraints, this is one of the better laptop rooms in Sonoma County.
