Piper and Leaf Tea Co - Shop, Farm, and Production

Piper and Leaf's Laceys Spring location is a tea farm with goats. That is a useful reset to start with, because anyone walking in expecting a standard coffee shop will be looking for something the place does not particularly want to be. The property runs as a working tea farm and production facility on the Heart of Dixie Highway, with a huge porch and patio, indoor seating, outdoor seating, clean bathrooms, and animals on the grounds that visiting families specifically come for. Workshops and weddings happen here. The Christmas mystery box rotates through every December and turns into the holiday gift run for a stretch of regulars across north Alabama.

The order is tea. Healing Honeysuckle is the headliner. Half Chocola-tea and half Old Fashioned Birthday Cake is a regular's combination, double sweet, that should not work and does. Boba with sassafras strawberry is the move if you brought kids who came for the goats and stayed for a drink. The sparkling tea is the seasonal-summer pick. Free samples line the retail counter, and the on-site coffee roasting workshops are an interesting wrinkle for a property that built its identity on the leaf rather than the bean. The Cherry Christmas seasonal is the one to ask about during the colder months.

The honest caveat for coffee drinkers: the coffee side of the operation has not yet earned the praise the tea side has. One customer described a cup that tasted under-roasted. If specialty coffee is the reason you would drive out here, drive somewhere else. If a working farm with porch seating, a great tea program, gift boxes worth mailing, and a herd of goats sounds like the right Saturday, Piper and Leaf is the answer, and the goats alone will keep the under-eight crowd occupied long enough for the adults to finish a pot in peace.
