About

Beignets, king cake, and praline. The PJ's franchise in Gonzales leans into the Louisiana side of the parent brand's New Orleans identity, with a Highway 30 location that picks up I-10 commuters heading between Houston and New Orleans, near the Tanger outlet exit and Albasha.

Drive-thru on one side, indoor dine-in on the other. The room is earthy and red-toned, family-friendly, with calm comfy seating that suits a long visit and a drive-thru that handles the in-and-out crowd.

The drink list is the reason to make the stop. The King Cake Velvet Ice is the seasonal anchor, with the Pecan Velvet Ice running close behind. Beignets here have been called the best in Gonzales, which is a real claim in this part of Louisiana and earns the food order. A praline latte with oat milk gives you the regional dessert flavor in cup form. The frozen hot chocolate XL with espresso shots is the over-the-top option, and the bacon biscuit holds up the savory side of breakfast.

This is an interstate stopover for I-10 drivers, a family room for parents with kids, a study cafe for students settling in for long writing sessions, and a twice-a-day room for the local regulars who treat it like a second kitchen.

Two notes from recent feedback. Pricing has crept up, which is the franchise pattern at most regional chains right now. Service has been called inconsistent, with the speed and friendliness varying shift to shift. Neither is a deal-breaker if you are pulling off I-10 with a kid in the back seat and a deadline at the other end of the drive, but worth calibrating expectations before you order three lattes and four beignets and start counting minutes.
