Greg started Port Coffee Roasters by selling beans at the Brick Farmers Market before opening on Main Avenue in Bay Head, and the operation has now expanded to a second location on Channel Drive in Point Pleasant Beach. The owners are part of the appeal, named in nearly every regular's account of the place, and the shop has the cool, low-key feel that a Jersey Shore operation has when the people behind it live there and know everyone's name by the second visit. Seating is picnic tables out front. That is the seating plan. If the weather is wrong, this is a takeout shop, and the staff would tell you so without apology. The Salty Dog is the house drink, hot or iced, and the Cocolicious holds up next to it and earns its menu space. The single-origin pour-over program is the serious part of the menu and is where the in-house roasting shows up most clearly, with a Papua New Guinea pour-over worth ordering when it is on rotation. The peppermint mocha and the chagaccino round out the specialty list and are reliable orders even when you have not been in for a while. Empanadas are available. Dogs get pup cups, and a leash tied to a picnic table is the typical weekend visual. The catch, if it matters to you, is that this is not a laptop shop and was not built to be one. Wifi and indoor work setups do not come up in regulars' accounts, and the picnic-table-only seating tells you the place is meant for sitting outside with a cup, a friend, and a dog. Bring all three. Bring the bean bag home for the rest of the week. The single-origin focus is the whole point, and Greg will talk you through which origin is on the bar if you ask.
