About

The beans are roasted right next to where you stand to order. Printer's Row is a tiny corner shop on Lincoln, with bar-style seating along the front picture window and a handful of outdoor tables when the weather cooperates. Cozy and small. One recent customer compared the inside to a dark cafeteria when it's busy, which is honest enough that it's worth repeating rather than pretending the room is something it isn't.

The seasonal syrups are made in-house, not poured from a labeled bottle, and that distinction is what separates a small roaster operation from a chain pretending to be one. The cold brew is the workhorse and the right summer order. The cinnamon toast latte and the warm cinnamon crunch latte are the drinks regulars name first, both warm-weather alternatives that lean sweeter without going overboard. The Parisian Brunch tea gives you a non-coffee option that isn't an afterthought, and worth ordering if you've been on coffee all morning already.

Pastries come from Dan the Baker, which is the right answer for anyone who already knows Dan the Baker and a good introduction for anyone who doesn't.

Dogs are welcome, which fits the Lincoln Park neighborhood and adds to the foot traffic on the sidewalk out front. The wifi has been flagged as unreliable, and the seating is extremely limited even when the room isn't full. This is a grab-and-go stop and the layout makes that obvious within thirty seconds of walking in. Take your cold brew, take your pastry from Dan, and walk it down Lincoln to wherever you were headed.

Don't come here planning to spread out a workday. The room won't accommodate it and the wifi probably won't cooperate. The roasting happening a few feet from the counter is the real reason to stop, and the rest of the operation knows what it is and doesn't pretend to be more.
