About

Radio Roasters is a working roastery first and a cafe second, and the math of the room reflects that. About six interior seats: bar stools and bench-style. A Vestaboard on the wall flipping its mechanical letters. The roaster turning in plain view from wherever you sit. This is a to-go shop with stools, not a hang-out room, and the staff are not pretending otherwise. Honesty about what a space is for is rare in the cafe business.

The coffee, though. Customers regularly call it the best in Atlanta, which is a tall claim in a city with real competition from shops with bigger marketing budgets. The beans come out so fresh that you are expected to age them at home before brewing, which is a problem most cities would like to have. Pour-overs come in anaerobic and washed varieties depending on what is current. The cortado and cappuccino are dialed. The vanilla latte for the milk-drink order when you do not want to think too hard. Drip coffee for the regular stop on the way past.

Chip runs the operation. A section called Two Clocks Coffee operated inside the space, sharing the room and the customer base. Leftie Lee's cinnamon rolls sit on the counter, and you should buy one without hesitation; they are the rare cinnamon roll worth the calories. The location is on E Ponce de Leon Ave near the DeKalb Farmers Market, which is the natural pairing: grocery run for the week, then a pour-over and a bean bag to take home along with the produce.

Vibe can swing with the barista on shift, which is fair feedback for a shop this small where one person is the entire customer experience for an hour. If you are looking for a laptop afternoon and a couch, keep going; the seats are scarce by design and the energy is wrong for camping. If you are buying beans and drinking a cortado standing up against the bar while you watch Chip work the roaster, this is the room and the city's best stop for what you want.
