About

A customer who'd spent a month in Colombia walked into Rey Sol and said the Americano and the pan de bono took her right back. That's the pitch in a sentence. This Morristown shop sits right next to the train station and operates as an unapologetically Colombian-themed cafe, with Latin decor and merchandise on the shelves and the kind of small character-heavy interior that earns the phrase cozy Latin coffee hut.

The food does most of the heavy lifting. Chicken empanadas. Beef empanadas. A guava and cheese empanada for the sweet-savory crowd. Arepa de choclo with cheese, the dish that gets the most repeat orders from people who already know what to ask for. Pan de bono, fresh and hot. Breakfast paninis for the commuter crowd.

The coffee program leans Colombian. The Americano is the order if you want to taste what they're about with the espresso. The iced chai is the one to grab if you don't. The pairing of either with a pan de bono on a weekday morning before the 7:45 train is the thing the place was built for.

There's a one-hour seat limit posted on weekends. That's a feature, not a bug. It keeps laptop campers from holding tables during the morning rush when the trains are emptying out commuters who want food, coffee, and a place to sit for ten minutes. Indoor and outdoor seating both work. Dogs get free puppuccinos, which is a small thing that the dog crowd appreciates.

The fit is obvious for commuters who want food and coffee in the same stop, and for anyone craving Colombian flavors with their morning cup. Dog owners get treated well, with the free puppuccinos that the regulars know to ask for. The fit is not great if you're planning a three-hour Saturday work session, in which case the seat limit will boot you out before you've started your second meeting. The shop knows what it is and who it's for, and the menu and the seat policy are both written for that audience.
