Riverwalk Coffee Roasters sits on West 1st Street in downtown Oswego, a snug, quiet room that smells good the moment the door closes behind you. The crowd is mostly students and people working alone with a laptop. It rarely gets crowded, which is part of why the regulars come back.

The pull, beyond the staff, is the rotating seasonal latte board. Wildflower. Maple nut oat milk. Pumpkin spice in season, butter beer when the menu turns toward novelty, caramel as a reliable year-round anchor. People drive in from out of state and other parts of New York specifically to catch a flavor before it rotates out, which is the small absurdity of a college-town cafe building a regional following on its drink board alone. The baristas remember faces, and that small thing matters more in a college town than people sometimes admit. Pastries are part of the rhythm rather than the main event.

One caveat worth surfacing for the order-builders: the syrup lineup has drifted toward Monin and Torani in recent visits. If you came in expecting the higher-end 1883 syrup brand that some specialty shops use, you may find the flavor profile a step less interesting than you remember. A 2-star review made exactly that complaint, and it lands. For most of what Riverwalk is doing, the syrup brand is not going to be the thing you notice. The seasonal builds carry themselves on the milk, the espresso, and the fact that someone thought hard about each combination before putting it on the chalkboard. Combined with the no-tip-jar ethos, the math works in the customer's favor.
