Mo is the operation. Owner of Sands Coffee in Oceanside, hand-selector of the beans, roaster, and the person pulling each drink in front of you. Customers drive twenty minutes or more multiple times a week for that, which is the whole recommendation on its own. The current setup is a small pop-up cart with patio seating on Oceanside Blvd while the permanent building goes up behind it, so plan for outdoor only and a line.
The patio is what you get for now. A few tables, a cart, a line that builds because Mo greets customers like friends even when there are five people waiting. The permanent building is still under construction, so the seating is weather-dependent and the wait is what it is. Regulars know the trade and accept it.
The drinks tilt toward the Middle Eastern and specialty side of the menu in a way most California beach shops do not commit to. Authentic Turkish coffee is on the board for people who want the unfiltered cup brewed the right way. The iced cardamom and vanilla latte is the order to start with, the Dubai chocolate latte is the one that turns first-time customers into regulars, and the pistachio latte holds up in summer. House-roasted beans rotate, with a Colombian and Kenyan dark roast combination on the menu.
Lines happen because Mo runs the bar the way you would expect somebody who knows his customers by name to run it: slowly, with conversation, and with each drink built by hand. It is the right trade if you are a regular and the wrong trade if you are in a rush. Who this suits: customers who want hand-crafted specialty drinks and do not mind waiting, Turkish coffee fans who have struggled to find the real version locally, and patio drinkers who want a cup made by the person whose name is on the cart. Show up on a weekday morning, order the Dubai chocolate, and let Mo run the bar.
