About

Tucked behind the Marlborough Barn antique shop, which sounds like a vague directional and turns out to be exactly the path you take. You walk past the barn to find the cafe. Shop Two roasts its own beans and bakes in house, and the space inside the back of the barn is bigger than you'd guess from the parking lot, decorated to play off the antiques next door rather than ignore them. Couches, bistro tables, a bar-height table, porch seating overlooking a pond out back. Weekdays run quiet. Weekends pick up, with occasional Cars and Coffee events drawing the local muscle-car crowd, and Saturday live music when the calendar lines up.

The drinks lean toward thoughtful flavor combinations rather than gimmicks. The amaretti cappuccino and the maple latte (made with dark amber maple syrup, not the corn-syrup stuff that gets called maple) are the two to try first. The twisted cinnamon rolls are the bakery item people come back for. Ricotta toast, avocado toast, sourdough bagels, caramel latte, vanilla latte, hot chocolate all hold up under repeat ordering. Staff greet regulars by name, which is the kind of small-town cafe detail you can't fake at scale.

Laptop workers get WiFi and outlets at the bench seating, which makes it a working room rather than just a sit-and-go stop. Friends meeting for coffee get plenty of seating to choose from, with enough room between groups that conversations don't bleed together. Travelers in the area get one of the better stops between Hartford and the shoreline, with the porch seating doing real work in good weather. The pond view is not the main event, but it's there when you want it.

one customer flagged that bean prices run higher than some other shops, so if you're buying whole bean to take home, compare before committing. The drinks and the room and the bakery program justify their prices. The bean shelf is where you make your own call.

Worth the detour off Route 2 to find the place behind the barn.
