Solid State Coffee

Solid State Coffee is half a level below the street on the Upper West Side, so keep an eye out. They roast small batches on-site, and the baristas often remember regulars' orders. There's indoor seating and a few outdoor tables. There's no wifi, and plenty of people come to read or relax.

The espresso is the highlight, and single origins rotate for pour-over or to take home. There's matcha, masala chai and fresh-pressed juice too. Pastries are made in-house, and the banana bread and vatrushka are favorites. For breakfast and lunch, try the Scrambled State Sando or the BLT. You can buy beans by the bag, and the staff will help you choose.
